SSC CGL 2025 Tier-3, DEST & Final Merit: Complete Guide

After SSC CGL 2025 Tier-1 and SSC CGL 2025 Tier-2, candidates reach the final stage of SSC CGL 2025 — Tier-3 (Skill Tests like DEST/Typing) and Document Verification. This stage decides who finally gets their dream government job.

Note: Tier-3 marks are not added in the merit list. They are qualifying in nature but compulsory.

What is Tier-3 (DEST & Typing Test)?

  • DEST (Data Entry Speed Test): 2000 key depressions in 15 minutes (about 27 wpm). Conducted for Tax Assistant (CBDT/CBIC) posts.
  • Typing Test: English 35 wpm or Hindi 30 wpm. Required for Assistant, Auditor, Clerk-type posts.
  • Mode: Computer-based, at SSC centers.

Final Selection Process

  1. Tier-1: Qualifying + cut-off filter.
  2. Tier-2: Main exam — marks of Paper-I (and Paper-II/III if applicable) = final merit deciding factor.
  3. Tier-3 (Skill Tests): DEST/Typing/Computer tests = qualifying only.
  4. Document Verification (DV): Original certificates, category verification, age & eligibility check.
  5. Final Merit List: Only Tier-2 marks considered + qualifying status of DEST/Typing.
Pro Tip: Even if you score very high in Tier-2, failure in DEST or DV can cancel selection. Take it seriously.

Documents Required at DV

  • Matriculation/Secondary certificate (DOB proof)
  • Graduation certificate (Degree/Marksheet)
  • Caste/Category certificate (if applicable)
  • PwD certificate (if applicable)
  • Photo ID (Aadhaar, Voter ID, Passport)

Preparation Tips for DEST & Typing

  • Practice typing daily (20–30 minutes) on computer, not mobile.
  • Focus on accuracy — even 1–2% error can fail you.
  • Use online typing tools (English/Hindi) with timer.
  • Don’t look at keyboard — train for blind typing.

FAQs (Tier-3 & Final Merit)

Q. Is DEST mandatory for all posts?
A. No, only for Tax Assistant posts.

Q. Will Tier-3 marks add to final merit?
A. No, it’s qualifying only. Final merit is based on Tier-2.

Q. What if I fail in typing/DEST?

Final Words

SSC CGL 2025 Tier-3 is less about marks and more about accuracy and eligibility. By clearing DEST/Typing and document verification, you move into the final merit list. Remember, Tier-2 marks + Tier-3 qualification = Govt job.
